If you guys haven't been paying attention to the indie game section on Steam during the holiday sales, you're really missing out. Sure, the main page has Mass Effect 1 and 2 for $10 and the complete Company of Heroes for $12.50, but Dustforce and Sanctum for $5 each is downright bonkers. Oh, and the flawed, super underrated Zeno Clash for a buck? Come on guys, what are you waiting for? While you're at it, grab a pair of excellent games from Double Fine in Costume Quest and Stacking for $7.50 each. Just prepare to be charmed. If you'd rather stick to the slightly higher budget games, go ahead and grab any of the non-Black Ops 2 Call of Duty games for 50% off. You can't go wrong with Endless Space for just over $10, either. Just try and resist your nostalgic feelings about many of the Sonic games that are on sale. Most of them haven't held up as good as you think they did. Really, just about the only good thing about Sonic Adventure 2 is that Escape From The City song. Check out what's on sale on Steam right here.

It's not too bad this year, The Thanksgiving Sales were much better though. You've already missed a few of the better deals (BL2, $7.50 AC/AA, etc)
General rule to live by in these sales is that if the game you're after is not part of a flash sale/Daily sale, to wait until it is, or buy it on the last day of the sale. (Especially Helpful on games such as Train Simulator 2013, with its $800 in DLC--Yes, That's the actual price, and ON SALE at 50% off!)
Another tip is to use the wishlist--You'll automatically get a notice if the price drops

Maybe they have a 3rd street Springfield tracks and you can use your train to backup traffic for 30 minutes

Train Simulator 2013 I bet that's fun as hell! That's why you'll be getting a copy. It was used as an example for often being "On Sale, and with roughly $1600 in DLC
