From the desk of Doc Noyes from Kramer's Gamers
What is a Gamer?
I get asked that question a lot when I tell people that I talk about video games on the radio. I have always had a very hard time explaining what its definition really is.
In the 80’s a Gamer was someone who played Dungeons and Dragons. Now that meaning is totally different.
Some people believe gamers are people who sit in their parents’ basement with energy drinks, pizza and an odor playing video games almost non-stop . Well not by a long shot.
Gamers come from all walks of life, all ages, races, all income levels, all professions
Myself for example. 34 divorced father of 2 a 7 year old and 5 year old. Fix computers full time for the State of Illinois. Been a volunteer Firefighter and Emergency Medical technician for 9 years. I have always been into video games since Atari 2600. Even programmed games in Basic on my Tandy pc.
I use games to relax after a hard day and to connect with friends from other areas of the country. I have made friendson linee that I may never meet in person. I play all types of games. FPS such as Call of Duty, racing games like NASCAR and Forza, and story driven games Such as Borderlands. I even play Lego Batman with my kids.
Big celebrities play video games as well and now one picks on or makes fun of them:
Actor Daniel Craig
After launching into stardom with his role as "James Bond ," British actor Daniel Craig admitted that he was addicted to video games. It seems his fondness for the "Halo" franchise ("good, because it's shooting aliens") caused a major problem in his relationship with now ex-girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell. He admitted that he "had to pick his time well [because] if his girlfriend saw the box it'll all be over."
Tennis Star Andy Murray
Even this British tennis star and runner-up at Wimbledon is a gamer in his spare time. In fact, it was reported that he was dumped by former girlfriend Kim Sears for playing too much. A source claimed that Andy Murray's obsession with "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2" contributed to the couple's break up
Actor Will Arnett
Will Arnett is a huge gamer and he's not afraid to say it. He can often be found playing "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3" until the wee hours of the morning. He loves this game so much that he is teaming up with Jason Bateman, Infinity Ward, and Activision to develop two exclusive and original series that will be featured on the "Call of Duty" Elite TV.
Olympic Gold Medalist Michael Phelps
He admitted before the Olympics he was play COD 30 hours a week.
You can be a casual gamer, a mid-core gamer or hardcore but one thing is for certain all have the love of video games.
Every age group plays video games and always will they will and the gaming community will grow bigger and more complex.
So now I ask what kind of gamer are you?
